Burav написав:Lt. Campers, are You going to add to Your topic on the reenactments of Peninsular war information on our event in Crimea?
Its certainly an idea, although as you will notice - My Back to the Peninsular Wars, blogs
are following the 200rd anniversary re-enactments; as they take place in Spain and Portugal.
I have two blogs running, the first being the 'Back to the Peninsular Wars', blog on the
Expat Ukraine, that include a few posts on russian re-enactments.Back to the Peninsular Wars
The other being my 'Back to the Napoleonic Wars, the Vimeiro campaign & beyond' blog on
the Expat Portugal website, under my other pen name Capt William:Back to the Napoleonic Wars
The idea for the blogs comes from my trip to Brno in the Czech Republic to see the 200th
anniversary re-enactment of the Battle of Austerlitz, 1805 back in December 2005. A
brilliantly organised re-enactment which included a number of preliminary skirmishes
and marches, prior to the big battle ( televised on Czech TV ) on the 3rd December 2005.
Fortunately these skirmishes and the Big battle itself - are still available for viewing
over the internet. For those that went, its probably the most memorable re-enactment
in Europe thanks to the snowy weather. See the start of my blog for video links.
Other 200th anniversary re-enactments soon followed, like the Battle of Pultusk in June
2006 ( another memorable event during a very hot month ), Jena in October 2006.
Napoleon's entry into Berlin. Battles of Eylau and Friedland in 2007 and the British
landings in Copenhagen in September 2007. The Russians also commemorated the 200th
anniversary of the invasion of Finland in february 2008.
This was what started my Back to the Napoleonic Wars ( version 1 ) which
became disorganised as the events didn't really follow the 200th anniversary
re-enactments as they took place. Several photo and video links have gone but still
includes nice video's like the Russia Today documentary program on Borodino as re-enacted,
today.Russia Today TV news report on the Battle of BorodinoRussia Today, Borodino
Russia Today, 30 minute documentary following re-enactors preperations for the
commemoration of the Battle of Borodino, near Moscow.Russia Today documentary
Therefore when I heard that the Battles of Rolica and Vimeiro were going to be recreated
for the 200th anniversary event in August, 2008. I naturally flew over to Portugal and took
photos, including a video recording of the re-enactments.
Thats what started the Back to the Peninsular Wars, which follows the 200th anniversary
events more closely. Including other 200th anniversary re-enactments in Europe, these I'm
updating along with current historical events which include a report on the Lines of Torres Vedras.
